In this episode of the Talking Shop Podcast, I’m joined by Seni Thomas, CEO and Founder of Edge Markets, to discuss his journey into the gaming industry and the innovative payment solutions his company offers.
After a successful career in ad tech, Seni transitioned into gaming four and a half years ago, initially through Arena Media Group, which acquired the Sports Illustrated brand. His fascination with financial products and reducing transactional friction led to the creation of Edge Markets and the Edge Card, a groundbreaking debit card and limited-use checking account designed to address the gaming industry’s payment bottlenecks.
The single-use debit card (it can only be used at casinos and online gambling apps) streamlines deposits and withdrawals for players. The card’s transparency addresses the industry’s “financial fragmentation,” where players struggle to track funds across multiple accounts.
A key focus of the discussion is responsible gaming (RG). Seni highlights how the Edge Card promotes financial segmentation, allowing users to budget consciously and track their gambling through a single account. Features like Copilot, with a 7% adoption rate, enable friends to monitor transactions.
Seni also addresses skepticism about the card’s high limits and integration, emphasizing its simplicity as a debit card that requires no operator integrations and generates revenue through interchange rebates. With partnerships like the World Series of Poker and upcoming casino collaborations, Edge Markets could finally solve one of the industry’s most significant points of friction.
