“Like it or not, consumer behavior is changing, and that was accelerated via the pandemic. More opportunities and entertainment opportunities through digital channels are changing the way people behave. Our children are never going to do things that we did in person.”

In this episode of the Talking Shop Podcast, I’m joined by John Pappas, a public affairs and govt. relations expert and founder of Corridor Consulting.
John and I contrast the successes of online sports betting and lottery with the frustratingly slow legalization of online casinos and poker. John and I also look ahead to the 2025 legislative session and speculate what states might be in play and the different paths each will have to navigate.
John focused on two states:
“Wyoming is a state where it's not going to be a budget thing. Obviously, they have a big property tax issue and they want to reduce property taxes. People in Wyoming don't like to pay taxes. So they're always looking for interesting ways to make sure that their residents aren't paying taxes.”
“Maryland, I think is a very interesting state for 2025 as well. We had a bill that went through the House. It passed overwhelmingly this last session. The bill has been reintroduced. The sponsor of the bill still remains the chairman of that committee, and I fully expect that she will be seeking to advance her bill this year.”
